Weekly Roundup - Opening 9/26

It's been somewhat of a crazy first week for Opening Movies, but it sure has been fun!

There are plenty of movies to pick from to see this weekend, and with 3 of the 5 opening movies being based on novels, there should be some good films in the mix. There is also a diverse set of options, with their being a comedy (Choke), an historic military drama (Miracle at St. Anna), a romance (Nights in Rodanthe), a current military drama (The Lucky Ones), and a suspenseful action flick (Eagle Eye). It doesn't get much more diverse than that, so there should be something for everyone.

Weekend Suggestion:

If I had to select just one film to watch this weekend, I would definitely pick Choke. I've been looking forward to seeing it for more than a year now, and I don't want to wait any longer! It's based on a hillarious novel, has a great cast, and won the Jury Selection Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. Doesn't get much better than that!

My Response: I first heard of this film quite a while ago and I had pretty high hopes for it. While the initial premise seems a little flimsy, I am usually impressed with Spike Lee joints. The cast is also solid, with Derek Luke being a strong up and comer. But, most of the reviews are pretty bad, so I might save this one for Netflix.
